Arthritis & Rheumatology Clinic

Welcome to ARC

Rheumatology is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the various diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
Consultant Rheumatologists are specialists in this medical field.

Arthritis & Rheumatology Clinic deals with the investigations, diagnosis and treatment of patients with rheumatic conditions such as Gout, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis.  Other conditions treated include: Regional  joint pains such as neck, back,
shoulder or any other joint pain, soft tissue disorders such as bursitis, tendonitis, and capsulitis, connective tissue
diseases such as Lupus, Scleroderma, Dermatomyositis and Polymyositis, and vasculitic conditions such as
Wegener's disease (Granulomatosis Polyangiitis), Behcet's disease, Microscopic Angiitis.  We also have interest in bone diseases such as Osteoporosis and Paget's disease .

Rheumatologists adopt medical, surgical, and other means of treatment options.
Rheumatic diseases are treated with analgesics, nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, steroids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, immunosuppressants and biological therapy such as Infliximab, Etanercept and Adalimumab. New therapies are being developed all the time.

Joint and/or soft tissue aspiration and injections may be required in the overall treatment of various conditions. These include: local and steroid injections, hyaluronic acid injections and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections.  As there are various therapeutic measures available, physical and occupational therapy often play a vital treatment option in the overall management of rheumatic patients.

Admission to hospital is necessary in a small percentage of patients.  This provides an environment for running a comprehensive battery of tests and providing the relevant treatment for our patients.
